Hardwood Floor Problems [“Gaps Between Boards” Series 5 of 6]

Some seasonal gapping is normal as humidity swings through the year. Gaps that stay open usually mean the flooring went down at a higher moisture content than its surroundings and the boards shrank as they dried. Wider boards gap wider, and hot spots from appliances or poorly insulated ducts can open gaps in just one area of a floor.
