Why Concrete Dew Point Is Important in Flooring Installations

Jason Spangler, Vice President of Sales for Wagner Meters, explains how to determine the dew point of a concrete slab and which tools it takes, a step that gets little attention in the flooring installation process.

He demonstrates how a digital thermo-hygrometer and an infrared thermometer work together: the thermo-hygrometer gives you ambient conditions and dew point, the infrared thermometer gives you the slab’s surface temperature.

The general guidance is not to install a floor when the dew point is within 5 degrees of the concrete temperature, since condensation can form on the slab.
