Relative humidity testing is the modern alternative to the anhydrous calcium chloride test. Calcium chloride testing dates back to the 1940s, and over the decades flooring contractors watched moisture problems appear on slabs the test had cleared for installation. The recurring lesson was that the slabs had not been given enough time to dry.
