MFMA Turns to RH Testing as New Standard
Recently, Maple Flooring Manufacturer’s Association (MFMA) announced that effective October 1, 2011, it will only recognize Relative Humidity (RH) testing as the standard for measuring moisture levels in concrete slabs. RH testing takes moisture level readings by installing sensors within a drying concrete slab to measure moisture conditions within the concrete, rather than just at the surface where readings can be influenced by a number of environmental situations. In an industry that needs to know when a slab is ready for the flooring installation, the question of concrete moisture is a critical one.
LEED and HVAC, Friends or Enemy?
Here is a question posted on LinkedIn we would love to hear your feedback on:
LEED…THE LATEST BUZZ WORK. I know that forever the industry has not received the appropriate ambient conditions to perform moisture testing the way it is specified to be done. I know that we fast track everything to the point that concrete has no chance to “dry”. Now we are actually promoting and rewarding projects for not having the HVAC turned on until occupancy, by potentially giving it LEED credits? Someone please help me REALLY make sense of this. I don’t understand why, as building professionals, the implications are not seen!
