There were times when Koster required me to use a 'barrier product' between the concrete and the epoxy mitigation. They want to see a rapid set cement used as a buffer between concrete with high concentrations of silicates and the epoxy. Talk about a pain in the behind on large jobs..... They want rapid set and the stuff sets in a matter of minutes. So you mix a 5 gallon pail and run to your work area and beat it out of the bucket then pound it onto the concrete surface and by that time the stuff is so stiff you can't work it. Luckily the biggest job we did that on was 10,000sf....

We also must fill holes, spalls, large voids etc., and for that they recommend a fast setting cement. Sometimes you just have to patch under the epoxy mitigation. But I agree the fewer layers, the better off you are.
