What do you all find testing costing?

I just did a proposal for a customer and independent testing from five companies ran between $100 - $350 per RH & Ph test.

They vary widely by the tester and geographic location ($90 / hr travel). Some savings on larger projects but I am amazed they don't all come in closer together. None of the testers provide reports with advise just the numbers. They just test and are done.

I'm kinda in the middle there, advice is extra, to many variables there. Everyone knows what they (sensors) cost, your time is valuable and everyones time/cost is different.

My pricing is based on sensor price, time it takes to place each, plus travel distance radius from office for two mobilizations: 30 miles; 30-75; 75-150. Anything over 150 I have to quote based on actual expenses including per diem for hotel and meals if needed. Seems to work for me. In the end, I believe my prices are competitive and very reasonable for the region I cover.

I get between $80 and $125 per test. Small jobs may want just 3 tests, and I charge $125. I lose money because I include travel, installation, initial and 72 hour reading, and a complete report.

Larger jobs are around $80 each. PH is included.

My base price is $340 for 3 done locally. May seem a bit high, but small testing jobs can be financial killers, and my prices drop dramatically once the number of sensors increases. I have spent considerable time figuring my raw costs for sensors, fuel, and my time. And sometimes, jobsites are not the easiest places to provide our services. Bottom line... I provide expertise, experience and my reporting is thorough, with reports always submitted within 24 hours. And last, I gotta eat! In the end, my tests average in the $75 - $95 range.

Good thing I supplement my income with leveling and concrete retoration work. I typically stay away from installing moisture mitigation systems resulting from testing jobs...just think it's a conflict of interest.

Seriously, I'm not surprised. But the midwest and surrounding areas are simply less expensive to live and do business in. As affordable I believe I am, GCs still beat me up occaisionally, and flooring contractors do a lot of their own testing because they're just cheap. Most just place a few sensors (usually incorrectly), with no regard to ASTM standards and adhesive or flooring manufacturer requirements for warranties. It just astounds me

Where did I just read where a guy was giving advice and told someone to put their probes in at 20% depth because the concrete was not on the ground.....
