ICRI in Chicago

Hi folks

So, looks like my first ever trip to the USA will be a whistle-stop for the ICRI course in Chicago for the week in May.

Any tips for a weary traveller? Best hotels? Sights in Illinois? Things to avoid?

I don't know about spending a gazillion hours on a plane to be stuck in one place for a week. But I am kinda excited.

And of course, I get to be educated by the industry's finest in a technical field of vital industry developments. That's good too.

I still haven't looked into the class myself yet, but you know I'll take you out for dinner and some good ol' USA carousing.

After I look at the class and location I *may* be able to recommend a hotel... Depends on where the class is being held. Chicago has a lot of hotels.....

There's always online, but I have pretty bad luck when it comes to hotels online. It's never like the brochure!!

Yes, I presume Chicago has a few more hotels than Geelong.

I've just noticed that the Indy 500 is on the week AFTER I LEAVE....

Well that just sucks.... one more bucket list item on hold.

Ha ha ha ha .... Indy 500? Just drive the Chicago Loop at about 2am... Better than the Indy 500! 4 lanes of traffic over and under bridges and around curves and swoops, speed limit is 55 and they are usually running around 90! Chicago traffic is crazy....

How did the ICRI event go? We just had one out here in Northern California and I tried to encourage PE's to go get trained.

FYI JD I've booked a hotel downtown, banking on the eventual venue being accessible via public transport. But I can cancel if need be. I'll PM you.

If it's off in the burbs somewhere you may be a $50 taxi ride away. I wish they'd book a spot already.

Yea be careful. The last one in Nor Cal one was in a difficult area. In fact, it was at a local union hall.

... I'm non-union so I didn't feel comfortable going. Worried about my kneecaps / health and safety.
