Bosch De-Tect 150
Anyone use this tool to search for cables and pipes prior to drilling? Can detect down to 6 inches.

RE: Bosch De-Tect 150
I have a Bosch detector I picked up at Home Depot. Can't recall if it's the 150, but it detects metal in slabs up to 6". Works great. Ran about $89

RE: Bosch De-Tect 150
Thanks! I am completely paranoid about people running pipes and cables where I am drilling. I hit a water line once in an old house, remodel guy ran a pipe out of code in the concrete. I hit it with a 1 inch concrete nail when installing tack strips.

RE: Bosch De-Tect 150
It's only by the Grace of a Higher Power I never hit something in the 200+ RH tests I conducted before deciding it would be wise to get the Bosch a year ago. I found others that measured deeper, but they cost $$$!!! And it would read deep enough for me to test a slab up to 15" thick...and how many of those come along, right?

Right! lol
I hear your not even supposed to be near metal anyway. like rebar and such so I wonder how people know without using one. Stephen Perrera dba Top Floor Installation Co. http://www.tucsonazflooring.com http://www.floorsavior.com |

RE: Bosch De-Tect 150
Thanks for reminding me- I rang Bosch Oz to price a similar item a couple of weeks back and haven't heard.
I can't find the De-Tect 150. Is it the same as the GMS 120? Biggest problem we have here with slabs is underfloor heating, mostly copper pipes. Surely someone has come up with a method similar to water divination, using a Y-shaped willow stick?

Ranges from $850 to $990 US, not cheap but looks effective. http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-D-Tect150-D-...B005EM93R0 http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stor...reId=10051 Stephen Perrera dba Top Floor Installation Co. http://www.tucsonazflooring.com http://www.floorsavior.com |

RE: Bosch De-Tect 150
The Bosch unit I have been using for the last year is the Bosch DMD4K. This unit I believe was phased out of The Home Depot; I originally bought it for $89.00...later reduced for $69.00. I believe it is still available online through a few sources. It is an awesome unit that has a range of 4.0" depth in a slab and will pick up #4 rebar, rebar mats, wire mesh, electrical conduits, P-T suspension cables, corrugated pan decking, etc. I have taught with this unit at several NWFA Subfloor Prep classes as well as here in the Midwest. I am not familiar with the Bosch De-Tect 150 unit. There is another unit I own, manufactured by Zircon, known as the MT6 that has a range depth of 6". About $129-$189 depending on who you purchase from. My experience with it as an owner has been it is overly sensitive and does not pick up electrical conduits very well. I rely exclusively on the Bosch DMD4K unit as it will do well on pours up to 10" thick at a 40% depth. It has been very accurate for me on suspended slabs, on-grade pours, and pre-cast decks. Hope this helps. Call for questions as I do not get on this site very often.

RE: Bosch De-Tect 150
Thanks for that David. I think 800 to 900 is a tad over the limit. I sure would like to read a comparitive study on them.
