RE: RH Numbers Rising
The FF is a great product, smooth and easy to use... But under OR tables and high stress areas I have found it just doesn't have the tensile strength needed to hold up.
I used to recommend installers use SD-P in high stress areas that need some smoothing. It is stronger than FF. Now Ardex has the Forti-Finish and their specs even say it's for use in high load areas like hospitals. I see break down in patch under OR beds, especially orthopedic surgeons who seem to put the bed up on its legs and then just wrench on a patient's bones, twisting against the bed legs and really giving the flooring a workout. Also areas under portable CT scanners and in hallways where rolling loads change direction (intersections, doorways etc.) I have seen a lot of sheared patch compounds. I have not tested the Forti-Finish to see how it stands up to twisting shearing loads. A lot of the installers I work for are using it on the advice of our local Ardex rep....
