I too have tried to feather edge a SLU, but I fiind I have to hit it at just the right time or it is a lot of work. My preference is to let the SLU dry and feather the needed area with something like Ardex SD-F.

I am out of there while the leveler dries. Besides, anytime I have EVER prepped anything for another installer he always has a problem with my work.

Would you have someone else prep a floor for you???

Most of the moisture companies we work with will do an exceptional job getting the slab ready. Usually with minimal prep on our part. This helps because part of the moisture mitigation cost comes our of our hide as the GC inevitably beats us up. My last mitigated job cost us $20,000 because of the mitigation cost / GC pummeling. But, my s/f cost to install dropped 9% gross because the mitigation company did most of the final feathering / prep.

Had another project where the mitigation company did a poor SLU job requiring a lot of feathering costing me 9.25% s/f gross.

So yea, for me, the SLU guy better do the feathering if I'm not being paid to do it. An 18% swing in added cost on a s/f basis is a killer.

Typically minimal prep is included in the bid for installing the flooring.

The last job I checked on the final work required by the flooring installer after we installed our SLU was a 3300 sf job and the installer used 1/2 a bag of Feather total.
That was only because we had a cold joint in the center between a large room and a hallway.

The installer did NOT offer to give any money back to the GC after we took almost all his prep work out of the equation.

The installer packed feather into the cold joint? Didn't you alert the GC? That will just be a call back no?

Offer.... I never offer to give money back. But the GC takes it.

Cold joint when pouring SLU= where the SLU sets to the point it is not workable and another pour to it results in a joint.
