Self consolidating concrete (SCC)

If it is true that SCC has lower permeability than normal concrete, does this mean it dry's slower?
Thus resulting in less curling? Or are shrinkage reducing admixtures still greatly needed?

Certainly looks to me that SCC can't be used over a sand blotter layer... which seems like a very good thing for Div 9 people.

Is SCC to be tested differently for moisture?

Do moisture sealing companies treat SCC differently?

Any other things I should know?

SSC concrete is a low w/c ratio highly plasticized concrete. It is amazing how it flows and yet the coarse aggregate still remains suspended. The heavy pours do not need to be vibrated like normal concrete. It does dry faster than normal concrete because of the low w/c ratio and less water.

I bet it is not used in residential applications. How would a guy even know by looking at it? The GC probably does not even know unless the architect told him. And even then would he tell you?

This is where residential and commercial are distinctly different.

I would also like to know if the normal testing is even accurate.

Hey, ea, thanks for that link. I've been looking into doing some concrete countertops for my house. There was one on youtube on the right with the superplasticizer.

I did a concrete counter top in my bar. I just ground it and exposed aggregate and inset a rope light around the outside edge. The whole 10' long top cost me about $35. LOL
