RE: Calcium Carbide testing and Silicates - Newenglandci - 09-24-2012 02:12 PM Sorry. 1869 RE: Calcium Carbide testing and Silicates - CC Solutions - 09-24-2012 03:59 PM (09-24-2012 02:12 PM)Newenglandci Wrote: Sorry. 1869 The silicate advocates can't test with 1869 because that test shows the floor still emits high levels of vapor. They are trying to come up with a test they can use that shows the concrete is suitable for flooring, but the tests they have proposed are flawed for many different reasons. RE: Calcium Carbide testing and Silicates - Specsystems - 09-27-2012 10:41 AM my opinion: Calcium carbide testing is only as good as the opperator. For example if the "concrete" that is removed and pulverized for testing is really a piece of Rock that has little or no water in it the test will show very low. Calcium carbide works well for "self drying" screeds and self leveling cements that can not be accurately tested by other methods RE: Calcium Carbide testing and Silicates - eaadams - 10-15-2012 03:47 PM On Thursday 8/18/2012 in the morning there is a free breakfast seminar with Howard Kanare of CTL Group on concrete moisture and I am told it will have a new special section on silicates. (ASTM C309 discussion included) It is in Northern California by SFO Airport. AIA credits are available to those who qualify. For those lurkers out there, PM me for an invite (but you'd have to join the forum to PM me! ).

RE: Calcium Carbide testing and Silicates - eaadams - 10-15-2012 04:38 PM hand to forehead... doh. Frantically checked my e-mail invites.. breaths sigh of relief. 10/18/2012 @ 7:30AM RE: Calcium Carbide testing and Silicates - CC Solutions - 10-15-2012 06:12 PM I hope you can give us a brief update after you attend. Howard is great to listen to, and his new silicate findings are hopefully going to help me out. I haven't seen his latest report on silicate admixes and topicals but I hear it is due out soon or was just released. Wish I could be there!!!!!

Unless you mean October 18th, Cheese goes well with fritz. I wonder if all the silicate people from Linkedin are going to be at the seminar.. ![]() I am equally curious as to the findings. Certain silica based treatments are starting to take off down here. Not quite sure how to deal with them. RE: Calcium Carbide testing and Silicates - CC Solutions - 10-15-2012 08:34 PM Hopefully Howard's latest report debunks the silicate myth.....
