Drill Bit Longevity - Ernesto - 10-15-2011 10:42 AM About how many holes can you pound with your bit before replacing it? Mine seems to be getting slower but the sensors still fit. RE: Drill Bit Longevity - CC Solutions - 10-16-2011 05:57 PM I haven't worn one out yet! The old ones with the awesome probe that had the reader and all in one piece, well then I'd snap the point off all the time. I could get about 12 - 15 holes before I'd break that dang tip. Since we went to the 3/4" bit I haven't worn one out. I have about 8 of them, and probably rotate them unintentionally, but we're only drilling 1 5/8 to 2.4 inches anyway. They should last for hundreds of holes... RE: Drill Bit Longevity - eaadams - 10-17-2011 01:01 AM It might be your drill. My Hilti died by getting 'slower' like you say. RE: Drill Bit Longevity - CC Solutions - 10-17-2011 05:55 AM I think I know what he means. As the tip starts losing carbide the drill gets dull and goes slower. One bit I had once I thought was okay even though it just had a little carbide left, and I started drilling and it was really slow. I put everything I had on the drill and when I finally gave up and pulled it out of the hole the end was just a smooth ball of melted steel. LOL. I must have hit rebar or something. We used to drill hundreds of rebar pins into concrete cold joints. RE: Drill Bit Longevity - ronrichards - 06-19-2012 12:08 AM About how many holes can you pound with your bit before replacing it? Mine seems to be getting slower but the sensors still fit. RE: Drill Bit Longevity - CCR - 06-19-2012 03:39 AM I've been buying Bosch bits at Lowes cause they're only about $23.00. They could probably last for 100+ holes easliy, but they do seem to make me work harder after about 50 holes, so I just replace them as a matter of practice to make my life easier. RE: Drill Bit Longevity - CC Solutions - 06-19-2012 06:35 AM That ronrichards is a scammer. They come on here all the time, post a message or two and always have a link to go to some other site. I don't know where the closest Lowes is.... Maybe 90 miles or so. My state is weird the way the retail stores are spread around. RE: Drill Bit Longevity - CCR - 06-19-2012 05:57 PM Scammer, eh? Whodathunk. ![]() 90 miles to nearest Lowe's? How 'bout Menards or Home Depot? RE: Drill Bit Longevity - CC Solutions - 06-19-2012 07:30 PM 30 miles to HD and we have a Menards 15 miles away. A brand new Home Depot opened near Menards then closed a year later. How weird is that? They must have lost their tail in that smart move. The building is still vacant after about 5 years. Menards controls some cities around here, especially Eau Claire, WI where their home base is. No other home improvement stores are allowed in town or Menards said they will pull out.
RE: Drill Bit Longevity - CCR - 06-20-2012 03:12 AM Had some dealings with Menard's many years ago while working for Ardex in product marketing. Very demanding and controlling as I recall. |
