I never said I do not use them, just not all the time. If site conditions are pretty much perfect, grading, testing and the like a water proof alkaline resistant adhesive can easily perform for the life of a flooring on concrete. You have to realize though I am residential and not working over acres of concrete placed in old swamp land. And I am pretty well aware of concrete issues in arid zones like my own. Thats why I have never had a problem, I know how to read concrete out here. I appreciate the warning but I don't approve of blanket statements like some here make.
One has to realize that the current condition of the concrete and ambient readings when your going to install is most important.
Course I always advise clients that a vapor retarder makes good sense and is cheap insurance. One adhesive I really like is a CX-1000 for hardwood.
Just saying there are installed products on slabs out here every day that perform well and the slab is poured directly on the dirt. Then theres the one that fail.

I'll take it that I'm the one whose blanket statements you have issue with.... If you would please be so kind as to tell me which statement you don't approve of I will be able to explain my position to clarify....
Concrete subfloors must be tested and
conform to industry standard and wood flooring
manufacturers’ subfloor moisture parameters: Less
than 3.0 lbs./1000 sq. ft./24 hours using an
anhydrous Calcium Chloride Moisture test according
to ASTM F-1869.

I know what cx-1000 requirements say. Thats at time of install. Does not mean if they go higher it won't hold. I'm glad your doing your research though. Now is that one a silicone base?

I'll bet you a quarter that if you have a problem the manufacturer's rep is going to come out and slap a CaCl test kit on the floor and tell you the MVER is higher than 3lbs and your warranty is gone.
I've seen that time after time....

This is great.
Oh I so want to say something.... I can't though. Arg.
I have used these adhesives. I have an A/B test down right now. I no longer use those adhesives.

There ain't going to be one coming out because the wood I used with that adhesive is still stuck solid and I'm supposed to go back and do more when they remodel soon. Heck, I am not looking forward to demoing part of it either. It's been down 3 years, and I did another room there since. Flat land around a ranch house in a country club with krappy drainage and grass all around it.
To bad no one carry's CX-1000 here anymore, I'd rather use it than MVP4 and BB.
This is like what I read on another wood florum...."You can't glue solid HARDWOOD to concrete" BALONEY!!!

Just don't EVER use a solid hardwood high moisture adhesive with sheet vinyl. It will leech out parts of the vinyl and make a brittle mess.

But Stephen, what do you do when it does fail??? And you haven't followed recommended procedures? Do you just go replace everything and apologize? What about if it fails in ten years?
And I don't believe you have never had anything EVER go south....
