Wow, I didn't even notice this and yet again, I never prepared a speech...

I'm flattered. I thought my only skill here was going way off topic.

Hope you are enjoying your transition into summer! Think of me in January as I plow a foot of snow off my driveway.

Oh yeah JK- we love the 44 deg (celsius) heat, gusting hot winds and bushfires!

I'll swap ya... Smile Here I am, on the wrong side of 40 and have still never, ever seen snow.

Well, I read somewhere that more people die in cold than hot climates. I should be thankful.

Never seen snow eh? Just north of us they get quite a bit, a little over 300 inches a year... Here we get a bit less than 100 inches average.

I travel out west to do the best skiing. Heading out again soon. My photos come up on a website automatically from the slopes. Somehow they have a reader in the pass card that tracks me and calculates trips and elevation and all. Then any photos I have snapped on the hills get placed right on my account hoping I'll buy them. Kind of neat.

By "out west" do you mean Minnesoota?

I met a Minnesootan at the Cubs game. Funny accents....Tongue

No, we don't consider Minnesota 'out west'. And they have a slight accent, not as bad as Michigan Yoopers though!

A typical Yooper (from the U.P. or Upper Peninsula of Michigan, which actually should be part of Wisconsin but someone must have lost a bet and the borders got really screwed up because of it) may have a conversation like:

Ya hey dere, bin fitchin' lately?
Ya. Fer perch doncha know, eh?
Ya, me too eh? Mebbe we should go tagedder sometime eh?
Ya, you becha.

If you ever get to da U.P. ya bedder take along dis cheat sheet soaz ya knoes what dere saying dere eh?

Being from California makes me feel generic here in Pittsburgh.

Good gawd JD, that almost sounds Canadian. Or maybe I'm not reading it right...
Big Grin
I see- Yoopers- U.P. While I'm at it, can anyone tell me why Indiana-ns are called Hoosiers?

JK, the perception here is that the Californians speak "American" and everybody else has an accent. I think it's called "TV/ Movie American". It's the accent which Australian actors try to speak when they come to America to make it big (read; Simon Baker, Hugh Jackman, Rebel Wilson...). As if your unemployment isn't bad enough...we're coming to steal your plumb jobs... Big Grin

I enjoyed the Chicagoan accent, unless I'm mistaken it sounded Noo Yorka- "fuggedaboudid! Deez freakin' NATO protestas..!"
